Project Website.

The story of the Amen Break, a six-second drum sample from the b-side of a chart-topping single from 1969 by funk-soul band, The Winstons. This break was used extensively in early hiphop and sample-based music (NWA, Mantronix). Later it single-handedly became the basis for drum&bass and jungle music --a whole genre of music and an entire musical subculture resting on 6 seconds of sampled drums.
