How Musicians went from Servants to Stars

The virtuoso instrumentalist and composer as superstar: Franz Liszt.

Very nice and timely interview on WNYC's Soundcheck with Tim Blanning author of The Triumph of Music a 'social history' of musicians in the west (remember what we said about musical knowledge --the difference between knowledge 'in' music and knowledge 'about' music and in this last instance the difference between metatextual knowledge and metacontextual knowledge). This is a very good example of the metacontextual knowledge we are interested in building. Required listening.
